Congratulations to Jennifer Short - New Class of 2026 NECTFL Board Member!
Jennifer is a talented teacher of Spanish with over twenty-five years of experience at the high school level. She considers herself a lifelong learner always pushing to challenge herself to learn more and do more. As such, she embraces opportunities to learn best practices from attending state, regional, and national conferences as well as participating in webinars and observing other teachers. Jennifer has presented at DECTFL and NECTFL conferences on topics ranging from best practices to blended learning to utilizing trauma-informed practices. Her passion in helping all students succeed has led her to develop training to build a school-wide program to address the social-emotional needs of all students. Jennifer leads monthly professional development for all teachers in her building as well as creates school-wide expectations for all students in her roles as Chair of the Building Leadership Team and Tier One Lead. Jennifer combines a passion for teaching with creative approaches to engage students and promote academic success. Her students work together in a collaborative setting that focuses on proficiency not perfection. Skilled in developing curriculum and student growth models, Jennifer has been chosen to lead in the train the teacher model and has had model resource units published on the district and state websites. Jennifer has been recognized as a Proficiency Champion by the DOE in Delaware due to her work in understanding proficiency and in rating scores using the Avant Advance Modules. She has been chosen to serve as a leader on the Delaware World Language Teacher Leader Network and has served as Chair of her district's World Language Curriculum Council since 2011. Passionate about languages and designing programs that encourage all students to succeed has pushed Jennifer to get more involved in professional organizations like DECTFL where she served as President from 2018-2020 and currently works as the Chair of Membership and TOY. She has represented Delaware at NECTFL, ACTFL, and JNCL-NCLIS's Advocacy Day. Jennifer is an enthusiastic learner, a passionate teacher, and a charismatic leader who believes in the potential of all students to learn and in the power of using your voice to promote change.
