She had the honor of being DECTFL's 2020 Teacher of the Year and is a member of the 2021 - 2022 ACTFL LILL Cohort.

Melissa Moran is a native New Yorker, born and raised in the Bronx. She moved to Philadelphia to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology & Spanish from Rosemont College, a Masters in Education in K-12 Foreign Language Education from Saint Joseph’s University and a principal certification from the School Leadership Graduate Program at the University of Pennsylvania. She has been a part of the School District of Philadelphia since 2006 and became a full time teacher with the School District of Philadelphia in 2011. She is currently teaching students Spanish at Science Leadership Academy at Beeber in West Philadelphia. She is a World Language Professional Development Leader and World Language Committee Chair with the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers, Health and Welfare Fund. Our vision is to build a more engaged community of WL educators to share, support and engage in research based pedagogical methods and educational activities through professional development. She was elected onto the PSMLA Executive Council and she is serving as the Vice President of the Philadelphia Area Spanish Educators (PASE). Additionally she is an international service learning advisor; organizing and leading school service learning trips to Costa Rica, Guatemala, Italy and Greece at SLA Beeber in partnership with Teens Inc. When she is not working rigorously to entertain and challenge her students, she is traveling, working on home projects and living her best life with her fiancée Christina.
